Historical Archive

With more than 600 years of existence, the Historical Archive of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau is one of the most important hospital archives preserved today. Chronologically, it spans from the 15th to the 21st centuries, although it also preserves earlier documents. Its characteristics (antiqueness, uninterrupted custody) make it essential for studying the history of Catalonia and the city of Barcelona.

Historical Archive

The earliest record of the existence of an archivist at the Hospital dates from 1596. Nevertheless, an inscription from the fifteenth century remains on the Caritat staircase of the old Hospital de la Santa Creu, which reads ‘Rational e Archiu del Hospital’ indicating the old entrance to the Archives.
