Back Life Victoria a Sant Pau

The Leading Lights of Lied, at Sant Pau

24.07.20

Once again the Art Nouveau Site is the main venue for LIFE Victoria, the Lied festival organized by the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation as a tribute to the great Catalan soprano.

The Festival continues its commitment to a programme that combines leading international figures of the genre with upcoming talent. The health crisis caused by COVID-19 led to the cancelation of LIFE Spring 2019, and the Festival organizers have decided to jointly present two events, 2020 and 2021, with the titles Invitation to the Voyage and The Journeys of the Soul, respectively. The two programmes are interlinked by the spring outing of LIFE.

One of the highlights will be Schubert’s famous Winterreise cycle, with various takes: baritone, tenor, soprano and countertenor. Another don’t-miss of autumn 2020 is the performance of The Diary of One who Disappeared, not performed in Barcelona since 2008, when it was hosted by the Liceu. Popular and workers’ songs will also be represented in a recital that will turn the Domènech i Montaner Hall into an Art Nouveau café-concert. The closing session of the 2020 edition will be with soprano Anne Schwanewilms, one of the most anticipated debuts of LIFE Victoria.

The songs of Kurt Weill, Édith Piaf and Cole Porter will be presented alongside the compositions of Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms in what is one of the Festival’s main intentions: to be a living laboratory of ideas, repertoires, performers and programmes that ultimately aims to expand the public’s knowledge.
