Talk: Lluís Domènech i Montaner and the Early Catalan Nationalist Movement (1887-1892) - Carles Sàiz

Francesc Cambó Hall
Thursday 23 November - 19:00

Lluís Domènech i Montaner and the Early Catalan Nationalist Movement (1887-1892) sets out to acquaint us with the political biography of Domènech i Montaner: his beginnings with the Jocs Florals, the generation of Jove Catalunya, his passage through the Centre Català, and his first challenge with the creation of the Lliga de Catalunya and Unió Catalanista.
His shared reflections allow us to discover Domènech’s pro-Catalan trajectory and, at the same time, explore his decided contribution as editor of the Bases de Manresa, one of the most important episodes in the history of Catalan nationalism, this year celebrating its 125th anniversary.

Carles Sàiz i Xiqués (Canet de Mar, 1974) has a degree in History from Barcelona University, studied doctorate courses, and has an advanced study diploma in Contemporary World. He lectures in History at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia and is coordinator of the UNED Senior Centre in Canet de Mar. Since 2013 he has been president of the Lluís Domènech i Montaner Study Centre and is editor of the Domenechiana journal.
